Wednesday, September 18th
One of our own guides Richard Trelfa will kick off our new season with a delightful talk entitled “From cherubs to the Angel of Death, Faces on Gloucester’s buildings”. How often do we walk around with our eyes closed?
Wednesday, October 16th: The ‘Antiques Roadshow’ is one of the longest and most popular shows on TV. However in Gloucester auctioneer Bob Short has been running a similar show for 40 years. Tonight he will tell us of some of his career highlights.
Wednesday, November 20th
Tony Conder, another Civic Trust member and also former curator at the Waterways Museum, will be talking on Victorian Railways with a particular focus on Gloucester. Not only should this be a popular topic but afterwards there will be wine and mince pies as well!!!
Wednesday, February 19th
Pat Harper and her friends in the Craft Guild at the Waterways Museum have developed an informative and colourful talk on what life was life on the working longboats which once plied our canals. Tonight she will be dressed the part as well.
Wednesday, March 19th
Angela Panrucker has already spoken to us twice and tonight is her hat trick when she will be introducing us to the glories of Gloucestershire. Once again her talk will be illustrated by many beautiful slides. So expect quite a few landscapes, churches, castles, animals, gardens, a bit of folklore throw in for good measure.
Wednesday, April 16th
It’s nice to have a light hearted topic after our AGM and this year’s subject is no exception when Mike Wallace will entertain with memories of the Old Tyme Music Hall. So expect to join in with some popular songs from yesteryear, some of which were performed by well known artists here in Gloucester.
All talks will start at 7.30pm
At the Gala Club which is at the end of Fairmile Gardens, off Gloucester’s Tewkesbury Road. There is no entry charge but there will be a retiring collection to cover room hire costs. Everyone is welcome – please bring a friend.
